The state park is the home of Cunningham Falls, the largest cascading waterfall in Maryland, a 43-acre man-made lake, and the remains of a historic iron furnace. It is serene place for weekend family enjoyment.
William Houck Lake is a popular  tourist destination in the summer with its sandy beach and swimming opportunities. It is a 43 acre huge man made lake. Beginning in 1935, workers with the Works Progress Administration & the Civilian Conservation Corps began constructing transformed the area for recreational use.
Cunningham Falls is the largest cascading waterfall in Maryland and major attraction of this area.
Cunningham Falls State Park is located in the picturesque Catoctin Mountains. It is divided into two separate but unique areas. The Cunningham Falls State park is one of several protected areas occupying 50 mile long Catoctin Mountain; it is bordered on its north by Catoctin Mountain Park and on its south by Frederick Municipal Forest.

Cunningham Falls Park has a recreation area with a 43 acre huge man made lake, Hunting Creek Lake, for swimming, boating, and fishing. You can dip in the lake at three designated swimming areas between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This glorious lake is very popular destination of Maryland in summer.
William Houck Lake is a popular spot in the summer with its sun-tanning sandy beach and swimming opportunities. You can even rent boats at the boat dock at the lake at Cunningham Falls State Park during the Summer months. The lake is clean and is surrounded by amenities, including a lakeside cafe selling fries and sodas.
There are a variety of hiking trails at Cunningham Falls State Park ranging in distance and difficulty from easy half mile strolls to more challenging 7.5-mile treks. Crossing wooden logs over flowing water is one of the stunning experience of the trail.
